Orange Court System & Jurisdictions

Orange County is part of the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida, which also serves Osceola County. The court system here is divided into two main levels — Circuit Court and County Court — each handling different categories of cases.

Circuit Court

This is a court of general jurisdiction. It handles more serious cases:

  • Criminal cases for felonies
  • Civil lawsuits over $50,000
  • Family law — divorce, child custody, alimony, domestic violence
  • Probate cases — estate settlement and guardianship appointments
  • Juvenile cases

Appeals from the Circuit Court are directed to the Fifth District Court of Appeal. Detailed information about the structure of the district court is available on the Florida Courts page for Orange County.

County Court

County Court handles cases with a lower threshold of complexity:

  • Misdemeanors — minor criminal offenses
  • Civil lawsuits up to $50,000
  • Small claims — up to $8,000
  • Traffic infractions
  • County ordinance violations

Both levels of courts operate in the Orange County Courthouse building in downtown Orlando. General information and resources for both levels are published by the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida.

Orange Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

To find out which hearings are scheduled for today, tomorrow, or during the week, use one of the following resources:

  1. Ninth Judicial Circuit — Case Query. On the case search page, you can enter a case number or party name and see scheduled hearing dates, the assigned judge, and the court division.
  2. Clerk of Courts Portal. Through the online record search system, data on hearing dates, case status, and filed documents are available.
  3. First Appearance. Most arrested individuals have the right to an initial hearing before a judge. The schedule for such hearings is published on the First Appearance page of the Orange County Corrections system.

If you need information about a specific court division — for example, family or criminal — contact the office of the relevant division directly by phone or visit the courthouse.
